Film 5 - Harold and Kumar Escape from guantanamo bay

The opening 10 minutes to Harold and Kumar contains many teen movie conventions. First of all Harold dreams about his lover in the shower, whilst the other main character Kumar has love problems himself. His ex- girlfriend, Rachael, who he split up with 2 years before is now getting married. Other conventions include Kumar smoking cannabis, Kumar having an over exaggerated poo and Harold being called a terrorists. These all create a comedic and funny atmosphere to the film.

This text portrays that sometimes adults can be immature and be sex obsessed aswell as teenagers and maybe people like Harold and Kumar influence younger teenagers to act improper.

In the extract a typical suburb flat features and also a large airport features when Harold and Kumar decide to fly to Amsterdam.

Film 4 - Not another Teen Movie

Not another teen movie is a parody to a conventional Teen movie, so obviously it would contain most the conventions for a teen movie. Jake is the "the popular guy", Jayney is the " Outcast Geek" and Priscilla is the "nasty cheerleader". Jake has a crush on Priscilla which is a typical teen movie aspect.

The film signals that it is aiming for a teenage audience as it is set in a high school and the cast are acting as teenagers. Its aim is to show  the viewers that if they mess round in school they will not get a  good education.

The extract portrays adults as unthoughtful because when Janey's brother teases her by calling her a lesbian, her dad doesn't back her up and continues to tease her. The extract implies that teenagers are more interested in there love life than their education.. This is evident as sex is the main topic within most of the scenes in the first 10 minutes of the film.

The film is set in a high school as the film is a parody of a general teen movie, a comedic and light mood is set in the opening 10 minutes through sex related jokes and embaressment for the main character Janey.

Film 3 - Spiderman

The opening ten minutes of Spiderman the Movie possesses many of the conventions to create a successful teen movie. First of all, we meet the conventional main character who within his school is classed as an outsider, in this case its Peter Parker, who eventually turns out to be Spiderman. We are then introduced to Mary Jane, Peter Parker's love of his life, this crush is a typical convention of a teen movie. There is also drama when the missing "super spider" bites Peter on the hand, the audience are in suspense wondering what will happen to him.

The location of the opening to the film helps signal that the film is aiming for a teenage audience. it is located in a high school museum where all the teenagers are taking part in their college courses. This allows the teenage viewers to interact and understand the bullying aspect of the film as Peter constantly gets pushed and shoved by these four bullies in the museum.

The extract portrays adults as caring and wanting their children to achieve. This is evident as all the children appear to be taking part in high level courses as the spider museum they go to looks high tech.

A tense atmosphere is created when Peter gets bitten by the spider, the audience are left wondering what will happen next to him .

Film 2 - Scary Movie 2

Scary Movie is a classic teen comedy movie. It has Sindy the main character and Heroin who always manages to squeeze herself out of awkward situations. The first 10 minutes also introduces us to the spoof version of the girl out of the exorcist, they add a bit of comedy into the character by making her want sex with the priest who comes to the house to "Remove the demon from her soul". Once again  drugs are presented in the first 10 minutes of the film as Shawty, the best friend of Sindy, seems to be smoking cannabis.

The snippet signals that it is aiming for a teenage audience as part of the opening scene is set outside a college and four of the main characters shown in the snippet are teenagers.

The extract portrays that teenagers are still willing to have fun however still care about succeeding at school, Sindy is a prime example. We are able to see that the extract shows that the adults care for their children lots as the Mum of the girl who had been turn into the spoof exorcist was crying and it was evident sadness was meant to be shown at this point.

Throughout the opening ten minutes of this film, a comedic atmosphere is created several times due to some of the exaggerated jokes created such as the priests being sick all over the girl and Sindy punching the girl unknowingly in the head.

Film 1 - Adulthood

The first 10 minutes of Adulthood contains many of the key elements which show the film is a teen movie. We are introduced to the main character, Sam Peel, which in one sense is the hero of the movie as he tries to get back on track after being in prison for six years after killing trife in the sequel. We are also introduced to the villain of this movie, Jay, played by Adam Deacon. In the first part of the movie he already shows his "bad boy" attitude. This attitude is present in the scene when he is having sex with a girl and treating her with no respect.

Other aspects of a teen movie are also present in the first minute of the film. Firstly, people are partying to music which attracts teenagers at the time and there also appeared to be the taking of drugs.

The beginning of this movie signals that it is aiming for a teenage audience as it is portraying that teenagers these days are getting more rebellious and violent. This could be because they want to send out a message to teenagers to try and get them focusing on their education and friendships more than violence, sex and rebellion. The beginning of the film also puts a bad image over adults also. It shows that adults are irresponsible and naive as they allow their children to take drugs and be violent. The director could also be trying to get over a point that adults don't hold as much authority as they use to.

The Film seems to be set in a suburban council estate area in a main city such as Manchester or London.

A sense of upheaval is built up in the beginning of the film as Sam had been released and people are giving him funny looks. Tension creates within the viewers as they are anticipating when Jay or any other of Trife's friends find that Sam has been released.
